IRENE SPOSETTI is back in DC in January. DC-CI in collaboration with BeingMotion has put together several opportunities to meet and explore with Irene.
Irene has inspired us in previous years’ workshops, welcoming experienced Contact Improvisers and newcomers to the practice. She brings a deep understanding of biodynamics, personal dynamics, and a poetic sense of how to convey their combination through her teaching, offering the opportunity to explore Contact Improvisation together with physical and personal clarity. If you attended previous workshops, you may recognize what we’re talking about, and if you haven’t, here’s your chance to experience it for yourself. Join us!
On two consecutive Saturdays, Jan 24 and Jan 31, we invite you to gather for a concentrated period of exploration and dance. The workshop on January 24 will be open to all levels and the second on Jan 31 will be for those with established grounding in CI fundamentals. Participants are strongly encouraged to attend both, allowing time to develop continuity, deepen questions, and follow the evolution of individual and collective processes. At the same time, each weekend is accessible on its own and welcomes those who can join only one.
Additionally Irene will be facilitating in collaboration with DC CI the Sunday Jan 25 and Feb 1 before-jam CI Classes.
The workshop on January 24 will be open to all levels and the second on Jan 31 will be for those with established grounding in CI fundamentals.
Irene will offer technical material and movement investigations focusing on skills, relational dynamics, and embodied choice-making within Contact Improvisation, as well as dance improvisations within focused scores. Alongside this, participants will be invited to share reflections, curiosities, and questions, allowing the work to be informed and shaped by the group’s interests and my inputs. We’ll explore movement possibilities, creativity, and relational expression through authentic and in-depth exploratory processes, cultivating clarity, ease, and availability in movement and in the way we participate in the dance.
We’ll dance with attention to ensemble dynamics, individual creativity, and partnering as interconnected dimensions of the Contact Improvisation practice.
Focus areas:
Somatic awareness & functional movement principles
Emergent expression, discovery, and responsiveness
Being with, making choices together, mutuality, shared agency, and play while improvising in CI
